Astros catcher Diaz out with oblique strain

Houston catcher Yainer Diaz was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left oblique strain sustained during batting practice Monday. Manager Joe Espada indicated he would be out for 'a while' without providing a specific timeline.

Veteran Christian Vázquez will take over as the starting catcher, with César Salazar called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to serve as backup. The 27-year-old Diaz is hitting .248 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 26 games this season. syntagm.co.za

The Astros made several other roster moves Tuesday, recalling right-hander Jason Alexander and outfielder Zach Dezenzo from Sugar Land, reinstating infielder Nick Allen from the injured list, optioning right-hander Ryan Weiss to Sugar Land, and designating outfielder Dustin Harris for assignment.
