Vaibhav Suryavanshi

PV Sindhu exits Indonesia Open after loss to World No. 1 An Se Young
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu suffered a second successive defeat to world No. 1 An Se Young in as many weeks to bow out of the Indonesia Open here on Thursday.
Sindhu, who had also lost to the South Korean in the quarterfinals of last week’s Singapore Open, showed spark but only in patches to go down 17-21, 14-21 in the round of 16 clash.
The defeat extended Sindhu’s losing streak against the reigning Olympic champion to 10 matches. The Indian is yet to register a win over An.
The contest began on an even footing, with the scores locked at 10-10 midway through the opening game as Sindhu showcased glimpses of her best form and managed to put the Korean under pressure at times.
She briefly edged ahead at 15-14 with some aggressive strokeplay, but An responded in trademark fashion, reeling off a series of points to take a 19-16 lead.
The Korean then won two consecutive points, including a gruelling 41-shot rally, to seal the opening game.
An carried that momentum into the second game, moving smoothly around the court and racing to a 13-6 lead.
Despite finding herself on the back foot, Sindhu continued to fight for every point and narrowed the gap on a few occasions.
However, An’s consistency and court coverage proved decisive as she closed out the match to advance to the quarterfinals.
“Vasundhara Raje believed in my vision, we were friends even before she became CM”: Lalit Modi
London [UK], June 4 (ANI): Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi has said that former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje believed in his vision of creating a cricket tournament of the scale of the IPL and had seen his work with cricket.
In an exclusive interview with ANI in London, Lalit Modi said the product he had created is satisfying and gratifying and entertaining for the world. He also said that BCCI has got more muscle because of IPL.
“It was Vasundhara Raje. She believed in my vision from very beginning. We were friends. Before she became Chief Minister…she was a young girl. And all the Modi family went to Scindia school. Her mother and my grandmother were very good friends. We were good friends from a long time…before even I got married. She knew what I had done with cricket, I had done with sports, what I had done with Modi Entertainment Network. We were friends," Lalit Modi said.
He said cricket became a passion after it became a business for him. This he said took on the form of an agenda after he relinqushed charge of ESPN to the Murdoch family.
“Cricket was never my passion. It became a passion of mine after it became a business for me in the ESPN. And then when Murdoch took it away, it became an agenda for me," Lalit said.
Asked if Vasundhra Raje warned him at any point of time that he was running foul with people who would later go after him, Lalit Modi said nobody went after him even after he left India.
“Didn’t know anybody was going after me till I left India. Even when I left India, nobody went after me. It was only before the Shashi Tharoor that people went after me for other reasons. But they didn’t go after me for what I created. People to this day appreciate what I did anyway. So there is nobody who has actually gone after me for the product. The product that I created is actually satisfying and gratifying and entertaining for the world," he said.
“We made it that it is for the whole family. And today the generation that we live in, the boys and the girls who are 15, 17, 18, they don’t know Test cricket, they don’t know India cricket, all they know is IPL and that’s what they will know," he added.
Asked if BCCI today has more muscle because of IPL, Lalit Modi said “without doubt".
“And that is why everybody wants to get into it. BCCI had no cost, only money. When IPL started, IPL was 1% of BCCI revenue. Today we are 90%,three years from now we will be 95%, " he said.
The IPL, launched in 2008 transformed the landscape of franchise cricket and has become one of the most commercially successful sporting leagues globally.
Lalit Modi has faced a money laundering case probe by Enforcement Directorate. In 2013, he was banned for life by BCCI for “indiscipline and misconduct". He has said there is no wrongdoing by him.
Lalit Modi served as the founder, first chairman and league commissioner of the IPL and oversaw the tournament from 2008 to 2010. He also served as chairman of the Champions League Twenty20 from 2008 to 2010, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2005 to 2010, president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association during two separate terms, and vice-president of the Punjab Cricket Association. 3 changes Gujarat Titans should make ahead of IPL 2027
The Gujarat Titans pulled off a brilliant resurgence in the 2026 IPL season to reach the finals, where they were beaten by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by five wickets.
They made their way to the final on top of brilliant performances with bat and ball. The star-studded top three of skipper Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler once more did the bulk of the scoring, while the bowling attack was dominated by hit-the-deck specialists bowling Test-match lengths. They have had problems which plagued them all season, which will need to be addressed ahead of the 2027 season, if they are to make it one step further and lift the trophy.
Here are 3 changes Gujarat Titans should make ahead of IPL 2027:
3. Add more domestic firepower to their middle order
The Titans' top three have done most of their heavy lifting with the bat. Openers Gill and Sudharsan both scored over 700 runs, and Buttler once more had a 500-plus run season. But one area where they have been found wanting is their lack of runs from the middle order. Washington Sundar contributed with scores at vital junctures, but outside of his runs, no one in the middle order was able to offer any significant resistance.
The Titans could well do with more domestic firepower in their middle order. They did give a few opportunities to Nishant Sindhu this year, and he did show some potential but did not convert his starts into anything significant. They will need batters who can not just hold fort when wickets fall at the top but also add to the score or pile on more runs on top of the platform set by the top three.
2. Use Washington Sundar's bowling more often
Washington Sundar has been one of the better performers of the Titans' side cast, albeit in a middle-order role with the bat. He has scored 377 runs at a strike rate of 150.19, contributing to the team with three half-centuries. An all-rounder by trade, Washington has been limited to mostly a batter-only role, with his bowling being used as a match-up option when there are left-handers on both ends.
Washington has honed his craft of bowling with the white ball in the shortest format. He is a reliable bowler for the national team, and his career economy of 7.10 in the format and 7.76 in the IPL shows that he can be used as a reliable option to hold an end and control the run flow. He is also a smart operator with multiple variations in his repertoire and has bowled in all phases of the innings. His use of the ball would give the Titans an extra option to construct their attack around.
1. Get more out of Jason Holder, the all-rounder
Jason Holder was one of the revelations of the 2026 season. Coming into the squad midway through, the big West Indies all-rounder became a mainstay for the Titans, bowling in the middle and death overs. He would build on the platform set by the new ball pair of Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, troubling the batters with his hard lengths. He picked up 17 wickets in 11 matches, bowling at an economy rate of 7.56.
While Holder's contributions with the ball were vital to the Titans' success, he was almost limited to a finisher role with the bat. Holder has time and again proved that he is not just a six-hitter with the bat but has the technique and stroke play to hold an innings together. In a season where the Titans have, on occasion, needed a stabiliser who can also score runs and boundaries in the middle order, Holder's curbed role with the bat leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
