Kariobangi Sharks in hot soup as SDT dismiss appeal against relegation to NSL
NAIROBI, Kenya, August 10, 2026 – Kariobangi Sharks’ bid to stop their relegation to the National Super League (NSL) suffered a hammer blow after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) ruled in the favour of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues and Competitions Committee.
The slum boys had lodged an appeal against their relegation on the basis of FKF’s promotion and relegation regulations that were enacted last year, arguing that there was no public participation to bring the new rule into being.
Sharks had further advanced that FKF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) should not have ratified the new regulations, arguing that this should have been subjected to a general assembly. forumteam.blog
However, the tribunal dismissed the case on the basis that the club did not exhaust all the internal mechanisms at its disposal, as a member of FKF Premier League.
Furthermore, the tribunal ruled that the new regulations were validly ratified by NEC and that the process leading to the same met the threshold of public participation.
The new regulations came into force in September last year, stating that the bottom three teams in the top tier would be demoted to the NSL whereas the top three in the second tier would be promoted.
Consequently, Sofapaka, Bidco United and Sharks were relegated as Migori Youth, 3K FC and Mombasa United earned their berths at the top tier.
The previous regulations, in force since 2019, would have seen Sharks — who finished 16th in the 2025/26 season — play Mombasa United in a relegation/promotion playoff.
However, with another case challenging the new regulation at the High Court in Murang’a, Sharks may yet earn a reprieve and stay afloat in the top tier.

Auxerre annule son match amical face au Paris FC
L’AJ Auxerre et le Paris FC ne se retrouveront finalement pas mercredi 12 août pour leur match amical de préparation.
Prévue à quelques jours de la reprise de la Ligue 1, la rencontre a été annulée après une décision prise d’un commun accord entre les deux clubs.
Auxerre a informé le Paris FC en fin de semaine dernière qu’il ne pourrait finalement pas effectuer le déplacement. Le calendrier de l’AJA a pesé dans cette décision, puisque le club bourguignon doit affronter le Werder Brême samedi à 14h30.
La proximité entre les deux rencontres aurait compliqué la préparation des Auxerrois, qui ont donc préféré renoncer à cette opposition.

Sharks lose Bok for All Blacks clash
The Sharks have been forced into two changes for Tuesday’s clash against the All Blacks as head coach JP Pietersen battles a fresh wave of injuries at the Durban-based club, reports DEVIN HERMANUS.
Pietersen on Monday said in a press conference ahead of the second match of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series that lock Emile van Heerden is injured and his place in the starting XV will be taken by Deon Slabbert.
Springbok utility forward Vincent Tshituka has also been ruled out due to concussion, with Corné Rahl promoted to the bench.

Addressing the media from Durban as the Sharks brace to lock horns with New Zealand, Pietersen shared his injury issues in the tight five.
“We’ve got a lot of injuries, and we are midway in pre-season,” he said. “A bit of trouble at loosehead prop: we’ve got Phatu Ganyane out injured, Cam Dawson is out injured too.
“Phatu has got a shoulder problem, Cam hurt his triceps, he’s also out. Simphiwe Matanzima is also out, he’ll be back soon, I think in three weeks time.
“And then we’ve got lock issues too; we’ve got Jason Jenkins, Stephan Lewies, they are all out … a lot of soft tissue injuries.”

The Sharks have availability and fitness concerns around several players, including Springboks Bongi Mbonambi, Makazole Mapimpi and Jordan and Jaden Hendrikse.
The Stormers lost 38-21 to the All Blacks at Cape Town Stadium last Friday, with the Cape outfit suffering injuries to scrumhalves Imad Khan (knee) and Dewaldt Duvenage (broken arm), while skipper Ruhan Nel hurt his calf.
Pietersen acknowledged the risk of injury to his already frail squad, adding: “As you can see with the Stormers game, they also lost two nines in the game with injury so it’s always a risk when you play a game mid-pre-season.
“I’ll hold my fingers and toes together for tomorrow, but we prepare the boys as best as we can to give them a good opportunity to be robust and competitive against the All Blacks.
“We’ll see tomorrow how it goes and obviously we will not be at 100% – at best at 70 or 80% – but we’ll give it everything we can and we’ll see how it goes.”

L’Algérie toujours absente pour accueillir une compétition continentale
La Confédération africaine de football a établi le calendrier de ses compétitions pour le deuxième semestre 2026 et pour l’année 2027, en attribuant à certaines de ses associations-membres la possibilité d’organiser des rendez-vous, mais en absence de l’Algérie qui, depuis 2023 n’est plus intéressée à accueillir un quelconque tournoi.
La Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) a réalisé d’importantes avancées dans la consolidation de son calendrier des compétitions, offrant ainsi davantage de visibilité aux Associations Membres, aux partenaires commerciaux et aux supporters à travers le continent.
La stabilisation progressive du calendrier traduit la volonté constante de la CAF de renforcer ses compétitions existantes, tout en développant de nouvelles propriétés susceptibles de créer davantage d’opportunités, tant au niveau senior que dans les catégories de jeunes.
La TotalEnergies CAF Coupe d’Afrique des Nations, Kenya, Tanzanie et Ouganda 2027 se déroulera du 19 juin au 17 juillet 2027, tandis que les éliminatoires débuteront en septembre 2026.
L’Afrique du Sud accueillera la TotalEnergies CAF Supercoupe 2027
La Supercoupe d’Afrique 2026 se disputera à Tshwane, en Afrique du Sud, entre Mamelodi Sundowns, vainqueur de la TotalEnergies CAF Ligue des Champions, et l’USM Alger, détentrice de la TotalEnergies CAF Coupe de la Confédération.
La rencontre est programmée le dimanche 8 novembre 2026 à 15h00 heure locale (13h00 GMT).
Le Ghana, l’Égypte, le Sénégal et le Maroc à l’honneur
Des avancées significatives ont également été enregistrées dans les compétitions de jeunes de la CAF, qui demeurent au cœur de la stratégie de développement du football de l’organisation.
La TotalEnergies CAF Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U-20 2027 se tiendra au Ghana en février et mars 2027, tandis que le Maroc accueillera la TotalEnergies CAF Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U-17 2027 en avril et mai.
L’Égypte organisera quant à elle la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U-23 de la CAF 2027, qui servira de tournoi qualificatif pour les Jeux Olympiques de Los Angeles 2028.
La CAF étudie par ailleurs la faisabilité de la création d’une nouvelle Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U-17 Féminine, avec l’objectif de lancer cette compétition dès l’année prochaine, sous réserve que les conditions sportives et organisationnelles requises soient réunies.
Cette nouvelle compétition permettrait de renforcer davantage les investissements de la CAF dans le football féminin et d’offrir une nouvelle voie de développement et de compétition aux jeunes joueuses à travers le continent.
Le Maroc accueillera la TotalEnergies CAF Coupe d’Afrique des Nations de Futsal 2026, du 12 au 21 octobre, tandis que la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations de Beach Soccer 2026 se déroulera au Sénégal en novembre.
Les travaux se poursuivent également autour du projet de création d’une African Nations League, dont le format a été examiné au sein du Comité Exécutif de la CAF. Ce projet s’inscrit dans la stratégie globale de la CAF visant à proposer aux Associations Membres un football international plus compétitif, plus attractif et offrant davantage de valeur sur le plan commercial.
Compétitions interclubs de la CAF 2026/27 :
Sur la scène des clubs, les tirages au sort des tours préliminaires de la TotalEnergies CAF Ligue des Champions et de la TotalEnergies CAF Coupe de la Confédération 2026/27 ont été effectués, offrant aux clubs engagés une visibilité claire sur leur parcours pour la nouvelle saison continentale.
Le premier tour préliminaire des deux compétitions débutera du 4 au 6 septembre 2026, avant les matches retour programmés du 11 au 13 septembre.
Les avancées enregistrées dans l’ensemble de ces compétitions constituent une étape importante dans la volonté de la CAF de mettre en place un calendrier du football africain plus stable, plus cohérent et plus prévisible.
Une meilleure visibilité sur les dates et les pays hôtes permet aux Associations Membres de planifier plus efficacement leurs activités, offre aux joueurs des parcours de compétition plus lisibles et donne aux diffuseurs, sponsors et supporters une meilleure visibilité sur les principaux rendez-vous du football africain.

Rassie recalls Bok veteran
A World Cup winner has been added to the Springbok squad for the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks.
SARugbymag.co.za broke the news of Deon Fourie’s call-up on Sunday, following his outstanding performance for the Stormers against the All Blacks at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.
On Monday, SA Rugby confirmed the 39-year-old, who turns 40 on 25 September, will join up with the Boks in Joburg on Tuesday morning.
Having beaten Argentina in Buenos Aires on Saturday, Rassie Erasmus’ squad have turned their attention to the first All Blacks Test at Ellis Park on 22 August.

Fourie produced an extraordinary performance in his first appearance since suffering knee ligament damage against Ulster in May.
Starting at openside flank, he played 61 minutes as the Stormers went toe to toe with the All Blacks, before the visitors pulled away to win 38-21.
Fourie scored a try from four carries, won a game-high two turnovers and completed 14 of his 15 tackle attempts.

Fourie has earned 13 Test caps since becoming the oldest player to make his Springbok debut, at 35, in 2022.
His most recent appearance in green and gold came in the 2023 World Cup final against the All Blacks in Paris, when he was forced into action at hooker after Bongi Mbonambi’s early injury and played 77 minutes of the 12-11 triumph.
