England call up South African star

England coach Steve Borthwick has included an uncapped South African in his 42-man training group ahead of their Nations Championship tour in July.

Bristol Bears centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg was called up on Monday despite only becoming eligible for England on 8 July.

The 29-year-old former Junior Bok therefore won’t face the Springboks on 4 July at Ellis Park, but could make his debut against Fiji the following weekend. He may also feature in a non-cap fixture against a France XV in Vannes on 19 June. amunra-online.pl

Janse van Rensburg qualifies for England through residency after spending five years in England since joining London Irish.

However, England required special dispensation from World Rugby to consider Janse van Rensburg for selection. The centre made a 21-minute appearance off the bench for SA U20 in 2016, which initially tied him to the Springboks under previous eligibility regulations.

The RFU successfully argued that such a short appearance should not prevent him from qualifying for England on residency grounds.

Janse van Rensburg, selected ahead of Bath centres Ollie Lawrence and Max Ojomoh, is viewed as a potential solution to one of England’s most problematic positions.

There were also call-ups for Northampton scrumhalf Archie McParland, Saracens No 9 Charlie Bracken and Leicester wing Adam Radwan, while uncapped Bath forwards Vilikesa Sela and Kepu Tuipulotu were included in the wider squad.

La deuxième journée des groupes C et D de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations (CAN) – Maroc 2026 des moins de 17 ans a connu la qualification, dans le groupe D, de la Tanzanie pour les quarts de finale ainsi qu’au prochain Mondial après sa large victoire face à l’Angola (3 – 0).

La Tanzanie a rejoint la Côte d’Ivoire au prochain tour après sa victoire dimanche face à l’Angola (3 – 0), soit le même score que face au Mozambique lors de la première journée.

Les Africains de l’Est ont ouvert la marque par Razaki Mgbeglendi peu avant la demi-heure de jeu (28^e) profitant d’une hésitation de la défense angolaise. Maitrisant parfaitement le jeu et imposant un rythme que leurs adversaires ont eu du mal à suivre, les Tanzaniens ont rajouté un second but en deuxième mi-temps par Hasan Kizinga (52^e).

Le match sera plié par Hussen Saddam sur un coup franc bien ajusté à la (67^e), confirmant la supériorité de son équipe qui disputera son dernier match face au Mali sans véritable pression.

Quant aux angolais, ils devront battre leurs voisins mozambicains lors de la dernière journée afin d’espérer prétendre à une qualification, voir à une troisième place, et ce après avoir décroché un point face au Mali (1 – 1).

Dos au mur après sa déroute contre la Tanzanie, le Mozambique a bien entamé la rencontre en scorant très tôt par Diego Pelembe d’une frappe précise à la (5^e). Les Mambas exerceront par la suite un pressing constant dans le but de doubler la mise et se mettre à l’abri, mais les Aiglons maliens vont revenir progressivement dans la partie.

Et c’est sur une frappe impeccable logée en pleine lucarne que Youssif Sylla a réussi à rétablir l’équilibre en seconde mi-temps (65^e). Le Mali, finaliste de la dernière édition, n’a toujours pas gagné, mais pointe à la deuxième place du classement du groupe C avec deux points en deux rencontres.

Dans le groupe D, le Sénégal s’est repris de sa défaite face à l’Afrique du Sud pour battre le Ghana (1 – 0) et relance sa course pour la qualification, en attendant son dernier match face à l’Algérien vainqueur de l’Afrique du Sud (2 – 0).

Si la première mi-temps a été plutôt équilibrée, avec une possession du ballon ghanéenne, les Young Lions vont être décisifs à l’heure de jeu lorsque Ibrahima Dione a conclu un mouvement collectif bien construit (59^e).

Un avantage que les sénégalais vont préserver jusqu’à la fin de la rencontre, se donnant de l’air dans un groupe où rien n’est encore joué, même si le Ghana est le moins loti avec un seul point dans son escarcelle.

La dernière journée, prévue mercredi, sera décisive avec les matchs Algérie – Sénégal et Ghana – Afrique du Sud, où chaque équipe préserve ses chances de qualification.

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen has opened up about his chances of earning a place in Bafana Bafana’s FIFA World Cup squad.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed an outstanding season, keeping 15 clean sheets in all competitions.

Petersen once again delivered a standout display in Chiefs’ narrow 1-0 victory over AmaZulu FC, earning the Man of the Match award as Amakhosi secured another important win.

Petersen on verge of making Bafana squad

Speaking to SuperSport after the match, Petersen admitted he remains hopeful of making Hugo Broos’ final squad but insists the decision is out of his hands.

“I think, for me, the hope is always there,” said Petersen.

“But at the end of the day, God is in control. We can only control what we can, and that’s performing week in and week out.

“That’s the only thing I’m in control of. So, the rest I leave in God’s hands, and let’s see what happens.”

With Ronwen Williams expected to be Bafana Bafana’s first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup, many supporters have called for Petersen to be included as either the second or third-choice shot-stopper.

Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has also been vocal on Petersen’s inclusion to the Bafana team.

Other goalkeepers reportedly in contention include Ricardo Goss of Siwelele FC and Sipho Chaine from Orlando Pirates.

It remains to be seen which goalkeepers Broos will select to accompany Williams to the global showpiece.

Chiefs will wrap up their campaign against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday.

Can Petersen make the final cut?

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18, 2026 – Gor Mahia players are set for a huge financial windfall should they win this season’s FKF Premier League.

During a meeting with the club’s top brass, led by chair Ambrose Rachier, the players were promised a handsome Ksh 5 million bonus to be shared with the technical bench.

“During a productive meeting with the squad, Rachier pledged a KSh.5 million bonus should K’Ogalo seal this year’s championship. The sum, chairman confirmed, will be split between the playing unit and the technical bench,” a statement from the club, read.

It doesn’t stop there; the club have also doubled the player’s winning bonuses from the former Ksh 5000 per match to Ksh 10,000.

The new bonus scheme has been in place for the last six fixtures, ensuring the players walk home with bulging pockets.

The 21-time league champions could seal their 22^nd crown as early as this coming weekend should they beat Mara Sugar over the weekend.

They sit at the apex of the league with 68 points, four more than second-placed AFC Leopards.

In a statement posted on their website, the club’s hierarchy expressed optimism that the financial rewards will add the extra push needed to clinch the league title.

“With the finish line in sight, every point and every win carries immense weight. Rachier’s bold gesture is widely seen as a bid to steady the ship and keep the players laser-focused on the ultimate prize. If the league leaders can maintain their nerve and form, the financial rewards may prove a timely catalyst for yet another championship celebration,” the club said.

Apart from the reward from the club, Gor will also be entitled to a Ksh 15 million prize money from the league sponsors, Sportpesa.

It is unclear, though, whether the players will get a share of the prize money — an issue that has been a bone of contention at many clubs previously.
