Coupe du monde : la France vise un 7e podium mondial face aux Anglais
Après avoir glané deux titres mondiaux, connu deux finales et terminé troisième en 1958 et 1986, l’équipe de France va tenter demain à Miami de terminer sur le podium de la Coupe du monde 2026 face à l’Angleterre.
Battue logiquement en demi-finale par l’Espagne (2-0) à Dallas, l’équipe de France va terminer sa Coupe du monde avec la petite finale face à l’Angleterre demain à Miami avant la finale de dimanche entre l’Espagne et l’Argentine. Auréolés de deux titres mondiaux en 1998 et 2018, les Bleus vont jouer pour finir troisième et ainsi sur le podium pour la 7e fois en 17 participations.
Une médaille de bronze déjà remportée en 1958 en battant nettement 6-3 l’Allemagne de l’Ouest, mais aussi en 1986 où les Bleus disposent de la Belgique 4-2 après prolongations. Par la suite, ils seront sacrés en 1998 face au Brésil en France et en 2018 contre la Croatie en Russie. newsindata.org
Par deux fois, le groupe tricolore a chuté en finale, lors de l’édition 2006 en Allemagne contre l’Italie aux tirs au but, mais aussi en 2022 contre l’Argentine au Qatar, également lors de la séance des penalties. Si les Bleus obtiennent la troisième place, ils seront la 4e nation en termes de podium derrière l’Allemagne, premier avec 13 dont 4 titres, le Brésil en totalise 9 pour 5 titres mondiaux et l’Italie en compte 8 avec 4 Coupes du monde.

Ganatra Elected As Inaugural President Of Motorsport Kenya Federation
NAIROBI, Kenya, July 17 -Altaf Ganatra has been elected as the inaugural president of the Motorsport Kenya Federation (MKF) in elections held on Friday at a Nairobi hotel.
Ganatra will oversee the affairs of the new federation for the next four years as Kenyan Motorsport turns over a new leaf.
In the elections that were overseen by Sports Registrar Rose Wasike, veteran rally driver and legendary Carl “Flash” Tundo was elected vice president.
Seasoned rally driver Erick Bengi takes up the pivotal role of Secretary General, charged with the day-to-day administration of the federation, while Sangita Gohil was elected Treasurer to oversee its financial stewardship.
In accepting the presidency, Ganatra set out a vision anchored on durable institutions and youth.
“We have just held our inaugural election for the Motorsport Kenya Federation, and we hope to push motorsport in the right direction,” he said.
“We are looking forward to putting up structures that are strong and will withstand the test of time. We also want to focus on youth development as we go forward, and ensure that the youth get a chance in motorsport,” he added.
Vice President Tundo, whose competitive pedigree lends the new leadership immediate credibility within the racing community, hailed a milestone day for the sport.
“It’s been a fantastic day. I can’t believe we are in a position where the federation has held its first election,” he said.
“We have a team that can drive motorsport for the future, and for the next generation to have a structure and a system that works for everyone.”
The elections formally establish MKF as the National Sporting Organisation, the Autorité Sportive Nationale (ASN), mandated to regulate, promote and develop motorsport across the country.
As the recognised ASN, the federation becomes the sole custodian of the sport’s national framework, responsible for competitor and official licensing, safety and technical standards, event sanctioning, dispute resolution, and Kenya’s formal relationship with the global governing bodies of the sport.
The creation of MKF is widely seen as a modernising step, consolidating the governance of a discipline that has grown rapidly in profile since the return of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally to the international calendar.
The incoming leadership faces a substantial in-tray. Priorities are expected to include strengthening event safety and marshalling capacity, expanding the domestic calendar beyond rallying into circuit racing, autocross, karting and emerging disciplines, and deepening the commercial base of the sport through structured sponsorship and broadcast partnerships.
Grassroots development, regional expansion outside Nairobi, and the nurturing of officials and technical personnel are also likely to feature prominently in the federation’s four-year roadmap.
Secretary General Bengi is expected to spearhead the establishment of a robust administrative secretariat, while Treasurer Gohil will be tasked with instituting sound financial controls and reporting.
Industry observers welcomed both the outcome and the transparent, well-supervised manner of the election, noting that a unified, professionally run national body positions Kenya to consolidate its standing as one of Africa’s premier motorsport destinations.
With the WRC Safari Rally continuing to draw global audiences to the country, the newly elected MKF leadership begins its term carrying considerable expectation, along with the goodwill of a fraternity eager to see the sport reach new heights over the next four years.
Sharks hold on for narrow win
The Sharks XV opened their 2026 Currie Cup campaign with a hard-fought bonus-point victory against the Pumas at Mbombela Stadium on Friday.
Leading 19-5 at half-time, Sharks left winger Lyle Matthews scored a hat-trick of tries in the opening 40 minutes and flyhalf Tim Swiel kicked six points as the men from Durban held on to triumph 26-24 in Nelspruit.
The Pumas drew first blood through an unconverted try from speedster Lundi Msenge, before the visitors powered in front via Matthews and two Swiel conversions.

Hooker Kerron van Vuuren dotted down, and Swiel added the extras, to give the Sharks the perfect start to the second stanza.
The hosts looked to claw their way back with tries from replacement hooker Chyle van Zyl, wing Tino Swanepoel and lock JJ Scheepers, along with the boot of No 10 Nevaldo Fleurs, but it was ultimately all in vain.
In round two, the Sharks will hit the road again to face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next Friday. Jimmy Stonehouse’s charges, meanwhile, must regroup to face the Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Lake to Boks: Let’s get physical
Captain Dewi Lake says manning up to the Springboks is non-negotiable if Wales are to unleash an attack strong enough to trouble the world champions on Saturday.
He admitted his men fell short in that department in last week’s Nations Championship defeat in Argentina, but believes a strong showing from the pack at Kings Park will give the visitors a platform for their backline to strike.
“For us, physicality is going to be a massive change. I said after the match in San Juan that we weren’t physical enough and we didn’t win those physical encounters,” the hooker said.
STICK: Our goal is bigger than Wales
“This weekend we’re going to have to. If we’re not at the races physically, it could get out of hand.”
Lake reckons Wales’ driving maul can then become a genuine attacking weapon.
“I think our driving maul has been excellent,” he added. “We’ve scored four tries in two games from it and we’ve scored against the Boks from it before.

“First, though, it’s about getting into those danger areas, into their 22, and I think our driving maul can cause them problems.”
Lake knows that will be no easy task against the formidable Bok forwards.
“We know what’s coming from them,” he said. “They’re a dominant pack, they’re going to try to dominate the set piece and create opportunities from transition.
“For us it’s about keeping the focus on ourselves. We’ve still got things to prove on this tour and things to put right, so it’s about implementing our game.”

Éric Bailly débarque à Columbus Crew en MLS
Libre de tout contrat après son passage au Real Oviedo, Éric Bailly s’offre un nouveau défi en rejoignant le Columbus Crew en Major League Soccer (MLS). L’expérimenté défenseur ivoirien s’est engagé jusqu’en juin 2027, avec des options permettant au club américain de prolonger l’aventure jusqu’en 2029.
Un renfort d’expérience pour Columbus Crew
Le Columbus Crew a officialisé, ce 17 juillet 2026, la signature d’Éric Bailly. Le défenseur central de 32 ans rejoint la franchise de MLS après une riche carrière entre l’Espagne, l’Angleterre, la France et la Turquie. Son contrat est garanti jusqu’en juin 2027, tandis que le club conserve des options pour les saisons MLS 2027-2028 et 2028-2029. L’international ivoirien occupera une place de joueur international et intégrera officiellement l’effectif dès l’obtention de son certificat de transfert international et de son visa P-1.
Une carrière bâtie au plus haut niveau européen
Passé par le RCD Espanyol, Villarreal, Manchester United, l’Olympique de Marseille, Beşiktaş et plus récemment le Real Oviedo, Éric Bailly possède une solide expérience du football européen. Chez les Red Devils, où il a évolué pendant sept saisons, il a disputé 113 rencontres, inscrit un but et délivré une passe décisive.
Éric Bailly a surtout contribué aux sacres de Manchester United en Ligue Europa, en EFL Cup et au Community Shield lors de la saison 2016-2017. Après un premier passage remarqué à Villarreal, Bailly est revenu au sein du Sous-marin jaune en 2023 avant de rejoindre le Real Oviedo, avec lequel il a disputé 16 matchs et inscrit un but durant la saison 2025-2026.
Un champion d’Afrique prêt pour un nouveau défi
Originaire de Bingerville, en Côte d’Ivoire, Éric Bailly compte également une brillante carrière internationale. Depuis ses débuts avec les Éléphants en janvier 2015, il totalise 49 sélections, deux buts et une passe décisive. Il faisait notamment partie de l’équipe sacrée championne d’Afrique lors de la CAN 2015.
Le défenseur ivoirien a également représenté son pays aux Jeux olympiques de Tokyo 2020, où il a inscrit un but en quatre apparitions. Désormais en MLS, Bailly mettra son expérience, son leadership et son palmarès au service du Columbus Crew, qui espère franchir un nouveau cap avec l’arrivée de ce défenseur de renommée internationale.
