Maresca: Marmoush Situation Different to Savinho

Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca has clarified that Omar Marmoush is not seeking an exit, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Maresca addressed the futures of several City players before Sunday’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

Maresca said persuading players to remain becomes difficult “when the player wants to leave,” adding that Rodri and Savinho had both communicated their desire to move.

However, the Italian coach made a clear distinction when asked about Marmoush. “Omar is still here, still with us. He is different to Savinho, so we will see what happens,” Maresca told reporters.

While the comments directly address the fact that Marmoush has not formally asked to leave Manchester City, they do not guarantee that he will remain, with Maresca leaving his future open before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Maresca said several players considering moves had struggled for regular minutes last season. Marmoush made only eight Premier League starts during the 2025/26 campaign.

As previously reported by KingFut, Tottenham were working on a double deal for Marmoush and Savinho. The Athletic’s David Ornstein said talks between Spurs and City were advancing, although nothing had been finalised at the time.

Tottenham have since reportedly agreed to sign Savinho for £75 million plus up to £10 million in add-ons. Discussions over Marmoush are continuing, but neither club has announced an agreement for the Egyptian forward.

KingFut first covered Tottenham’s interest in June. Reports said Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi admired Marmoush and wanted to give him a more prominent role.

A follow-up report in July said Marmoush wanted clarity from Maresca about his role before deciding his future. Newcastle United were also monitoring his situation.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. He signed a contract until June 2029.

The 27-year-old made 36 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. He began pre-season with two goals in City’s 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid before appearing as a substitute in their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Marmoush remains available for City’s opening league match against Bournemouth on Sunday.
